City patterns are patterns made of photographed Dutch street scenes mostly in cities like Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague. Dutch street scenes are often grey and lack colour. My objective was to make interesting visuals. Later, I thought it would be interesting to take the patterns of the images of hard city materials like bricks, concrete, glass and metals and to transpose them onto soft material.
I used soft textiles like silks and wool to enhance these patterns. These textiles gave new dimensions to the patterns because of the different textures, transparencies and deformations. I made scarves of these textiles because of the different ways you can wear and form a scarf around your body.
Dutch cities I photographed:
Den Haag (The Hague)
Weert (my hometown)
Scarves with pattern artwork are exclusive and available in very limited numbers.
City Pattern scarves are made in the Netherlands from 100% high quality silks often only on demand.
My project now is to photograph more Dutch cities and transform them in to patterns. I also want to expand this project with big cities from other countries in the world.
